With its wooden interior design and wine casks as tables, Big 9 is a modest and inexpensive wine bar option. Serves New World wines as well as Spanish and a small array of French wines, but the main attraction of Big 9 is the unpretentious atmosphere and value for money.

Located down the twisting alleyways of the trendy Lake Houhai area, La Baie des Anges is an upmarket wine bar and lounge that has earned a strong reputation in Beijing for fine wines. The owners are, of course, French, and the revolving wine list reflects a passion for the grape. Offers a romantic and soothing ambiance.

CHAOYANG DISTRICT. La Cave is a Korean wine bar that offers fine wines and a sophisticated atmosphere for discerning clients. Situated in a cellar downstairs from Frank's Place, this quiet little hideaway has simple decor ­ brick pillars and large wooden tables. The atmosphere is soothing and the service excellent. Order a cheese and cold cut platter to accompany your wine.

DONGCHENG DISTRICT. A very tasteful cellar bar with a refined and distinct French feeling. Room 101 offers good service and a fine selection of wines and liqueurs, as well as European draft beers. Despite the "open 24 hours" theme, the bar is often very quiet. A good meeting place for a quiet drink in the evenings.
